From listed buildings to your more straight forward office to residential conversions Alexander James Contracts have a wealth of experience. Projects of this nature are the backbone of this company and helped establish us ten years ago. With such experience in these sorts of projects Alexander James Contracts can offer invaluable input in the problems faced when working on existing structures.
DEVELOPING & PLANNING
From concept designs, feasibility studies, planning and construction Alexander James Contracts can maximise your sites potential whilst offering cost certainty to the shareholders. Whilst we are always looking to buy new sites we also get involved with joint ventures for those clients that want to be involved with the project through to completion.

The decades of construction experience of our directors places Alexander James Contracts perfectly for involvement in the design process. Currently 80% of our turnover is through Design & Build contracts and that is a clear sign of the reputation we now have for being part of a successful design team for our clients. Design and Build brings with it new challenges and demands, forward thinking and problem solving.
We are happy to take on projects from any stage of the RIBA plan of works. Over the years we have developed long standing relationships with award winning Architects, Planning Consultants, Engineers and Consultants. A great team of professionals brought together under our thorough management systems and constant attention to cost management have delivered countless projects that meet our employers requirements while offering the best possible value.
Many contractors shy away from the risks associated with design and design & build contracting. At Alexander James Contracts we see the huge opportunity to us and our clients of our early involvement. Alexander James Contracts brings with us hundreds of suppliers, sub-contractors and design team professionals whose early stage involvement can enable better decision making for cost, program and quality. Being involved early, managing expectation, driving design programs, designing out risk and ultimately managing cost through design means our clients experience getting keys quicker with improved cost certainty.

Alexander James Contracts’ core is as a main contractor and construction is what the team here love. We could not be prouder of the 200+ projects that we have successfully delivered for our growing pool of clients over the years. From multi use developments to luxury homes we have delivered over 100 residential schemes across the public and private sectors in the south of England. Although residential developments have become a key part of our business we have completed countless commercial schemes as well. From refurbishments to extensions and the new build construction of schools, medical premises, religious buildings and offices.
Building to a high quality is only the start of the many assurances we give to our clients. How do we ensure this? It’s through our dedicated team and the many years spent developing relationships with local skilled tradesman that hold Alexander James Contracts in the same light as we hold our clients. Reliable workmen and reliable suppliers enable us to deliver good value project after project. Our team of Site Managers, Contracts Managers and our Construction Director all have a hands on approach from inception to the end of the rectification period. Regular meetings, constant monitoring of quality and progress along with relentless vigilance in respect to Health & Safety protocol. For years the drive towards a sustainable future has been neglected. Zero Carbon Homes were something that most members of the public felt was unachievable and totally unaffordable. It has fallen to local governments to spearhead the campaign and lead by example on the push for us all to be living in zero carbon homes in the not too distant future. Alexander James Contracts are pleased to say that we have had the pleasure of being part of the design team and then going onto build homes all across London that perform to some of the highest possible standards when it comes to sustainability.
Due to our design and build experience we were awarded our first zero carbon scheme through competitive tender nearly 4 years ago. Since then we have used various combinations of modern methods of construction, renewable energy sources and the highest attention to detail in regards to air tightness to deliver award winning zero carbon homes year after year. By January 2023 we will have completed construction of over 50 zero carbon homes for both our public and private sector clients. As our experience in these sorts of builds has grown so too has our ability to offer our clients better value for money.
